UP TO 3 DAYS FROM CAIRNS

Consider heading north to Cape Tribulation for amazing rainforest (the only place in the world where it meets the sea) and more down-to-earth reef trips. Another area worth a visit is the Atherton Tablelands. You head up to Kuranda – which is a great place in it’s own right – then out to Atherton. Attractions include the Milla milla falls, the Curtain Fig tree and generally that it is so lush.

You may consider carrying on out to the Undarra lava tubes – cool tunnels created by lava flows. You could also consider following 63 all the way down to Toll then heading back to Townsville on 78 – but be warned that this is barren outback country with a lot of driving for little variation in scenery.
