We provide three different insurance (vehicle protection) options for your #spaceshipsroadtrip in Australia. Standard insurance is included with every Spaceships campervan hire, but it comes with excess or bond. We'll explain those words below. For complete peace of mind, we recommend the Stress-Free insurance option.
What does excess mean?
Excess is the maximum amount of money that you're liable for when something happens to your campervan. It's the part of an insurance claim that you as the insured person need to pay. In other countries excess is known as:
- 'Selbstbehalt' in German
- 'Eigen risico' in Dutch
- 'Excès' in French
- 'Selvrisiko' in Danish
How to reduce your excess
It's easy to reduce your excess to $0 when travelling with Spaceships. We have an insurance option that will give you complete peace of mind. No worries.

* = the rate of the Stress-Free and Partial insurance option is capped at 40 days. This means that even on long hires (over 41 days), our insurance options are affordable as you'll never pay more than 40 days for the insurance, which comes to $1,200 on Stress-Free and $800 on Partial.
Stress-Free excess reduction offers the best cover [recommended]
The Stress-Free is the most popular option for travellers as it reduces your excess (bond) to $0. It provides your vehicle with the maximum cover available, so you can relax and enjoy your holiday stress-free. It is the insurance option we highly recommend.
Please be aware, the Stress-Free excess reduction option isn't a travel insurance policy. We suggest you get this added to cover any changes in your personal travel plans, personal property or injury.
